Monstrous Desire, 2024, mixed media, 34 x 42 x 18 inches

I create sculpture and installations from common industrial and domestic materials. Central to my process is adventurous experimentation with media from fabric to insulation board. I have developed a world of figures and landscapes with a magical and ritualistic quality.

The work is about emotional complexities, especially the tension between opposing feelings held simultaneously. This tension is reflected in its references and materials - polarities like decay and excess, menace and beauty intertwine. My pieces are allegorical and distill the intricacies of experience over time. I am drawn to masks and stage sets, with their ability to involve you through symbols and fantasy. Theater, with its intentional and visible artifices, is a powerful means to tell stories about human behavior.

My current project synthesizes impressions from a recent trip to the Caribbean in drawings and foam sculpture. The work comprises groups of figurative, architectural, and costume-related imagery. Vivid texture and color describe forms with their own imagined logic.
